How 2020 changed home design and more.

How 2020 changed home design and more.

In our “Brief History” series we’ve discussed how major and historical events have affected the way our homes operate and look. Things like World War II, developments in technology and plumbing, and overall social trends all played a part. In that light, 2020 was a year that changed the way we work, relax, and shop.

The function of the home:

The biggest  and most obvious change was the need for home offices. Following the beginning of COVID-19 and the shut-downs there was a huge shift to work-from-home. With many homes becoming combination offices, schools, daycares, gyms, etc. there had to be some creativity involved in creating a space that would work for everyone. And while this may have started as a temporary solution many companies have shifted to remote positions full-time.

The look of the home:

In addition to the home office changes, during lock down many people had extra time to spend with their families and their homes. With the majority of the population spending all of their time at home many found the need for home improvement projects and interior design changes. There was a broad movement  toward using brighter colors and patterns in homes with the overall desire being to make  homes happy and uplifting environments.

This trend has continued through today with even bolder design choices being made, While most of our plant collections have died down (maybe literally!) we find ourselves continuing the idea of making our home an environment we want to spend time in.

Why this matters to us:

Not only did design trends change but so did consumer purchasing. We wrote a blog post that goes into more detail about how 2020 changed marketing as a whole, but one of the main takeaways is that during shutdown – and after –  consumers relied heavily on online shopping. This made product images, visualizers, AI, and overall marketing collateral extremely important. Where before customers may have had an option to see the physical product in store, these tools became a customer’s only access to product information. It’s proven that having high quality and consistent content helps them make a purchasing decision.

CGI is a consistent, versatile tool that helps you create beautiful images to showcase your products while giving your customers the information they need to make a decision. If you have any questions feel free to give us a call, we can talk you through the process!
